Good supervision enables the College to fulfill its duty of care to the students enrolled at RBC. The structure and delivery of care within a school must be consistent with the educational concept. Since the founding of the first UWC in Wales by the German educator Kurt Hahn in 1962, the concept behind UWC has placed particular emphasis on students’ development of responsibility, independence and personal understanding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t

Our Pastoral Care concept gives students appropriate responsibility in a progressive manner, strengthening and preparing them for their role as autonomous adults in society.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n

Supervision by Adults<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t

The students’ development is guided by adult supervision. The personal tutor and the house tutor play a central role in supporting the students. In addition, everyone who works at RBC plays a role in supporting students. We connect with them not only in the classroom, but also during activities, over shared meals, and in the many informal moments that come up throughout the day. These everyday interactions help us get to know each student in a variety of settings, making it easier to notice when someone may need a bit of extra attention and to offer support when it\u2019s helpful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\tTake a look at the detailed pastoral care concept <\/a><\/section>\n\n\n

“As a former peer supporter, my perception of the pastoral care system in our community is that it is extremely adept at responding effectively to the whole myriad of struggles students may face during their time at UWC. It’s incredible to have so many different layers of support from a management level down to students helping one another on a peer to peer basis. I think that is the greatest strength of the system at RBC; it promotes everyone to provide support to each other and take initiative to seek out support from others in times of need and every single student readily gives their support to other members of the school community.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t

The Health and Wellbeing Team<\/em> meets once a week to guarantee the best possible balance and support for the students. Consisting of our school psychologists, our Director of Student Life and Safeguarding Officer, the school nurses, the academic advisors and our social pedagogues, the team provides holistic professional support for the student body.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t

A Health and Wellbeing Team provides professional support <\/h3>\t\t\t

Through regular exchange and dialogue with the students’ personal tutors, the team has a good overview of all students and their wellbeing. In addition, the Peer Support Program<\/em>, which has been in place since 2016, ensures that students support each other under the guidance of our psychologists. Specific programs such as conflict resolution, intercultural mediation and peer counseling are designed to further develop the students’ natural abilities in this regard. As a result, everyone is actively involved in the care concept.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n
