The AIDS epidemic in 2019 – A Manageable Condition?

This presentation will include a brief introduction to the disease, explaining that it is unique and why. It further explains the different epidemics around the world, effectively the minimal epidemics of the west, most of Asia and Latin America, the concentrated epidemics of Eastern Europe, the generalised epidemics of parts of Africa, and the hyper-epidemics of Southern Africa. A particular focus will be on the implications of the disease in Southern Africa. The talk will end with some speculation on new diseases – Ebola and Zika and their lack of potential to become major global health problems but will stress there are other potential epidemics.
