Dear Parents and Guardians of Incoming First-Year Students,
Cc National Committees,
In just over two weeks, we at Robert Bosch College (RBC) will have the pleasure of welcoming our 13th Generation of students to our campus in Freiburg. I’m delighted to hear that most of our students traveling from outside the EU have now received the necessary permissions from the German authorities to embark on this exciting journey.
For those parents and guardians who will be accompanying their children to RBC on August 27th, particularly those within closer proximity to Freiburg, I look forward to meeting you, even if only briefly, starting from 10 a.m. onwards.
As your child prepares to begin their UWC experience, I understand that this moment can be ‘bitter-sweet’ for many families. It is ‘sweet’ because of the promise and potential that a UWC education holds – transformative experiences, lifelong friendships, and doors opening to a world of opportunities. Yet, it is also ‘bitter’ because saying farewell to your children, often sooner than you may have anticipated, is never easy. We recognize that they will
encounter new ideas, diverse circumstances, and a community that may well differ from what they have known at home. Rest assured, as your child steps onto the RBC campus and becomes a part of our community, they will be met with an extremely warm welcome and unwavering support from the dedicated staff of RBC, as well as their second years.
With the new academic year just around the corner, I am mindful of the students and families who have faced extraordinary challenges to be here. I think particularly of those coming from conflict zones, those who have navigated complex bureaucracies, and those who have had to travel to neighbouring countries just to obtain a visa in order to enter Germany. These journeys, both physical and emotional, are among the most difficult, and I salute their perseverance.
As these final days of preparation unfold, know that we are here, ready and eager to support your child as they begin this remarkable chapter at UWC Robert Bosch College.
