How do I apply for a place at a UWC?

UWC is a global education movement. At 18 schools around the world, young people from all over the world live and learn together and get involved in local social projects. UWC Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, Germany, is a boarding school for 200 young people between the ages of 16 and 19, graduating with the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. A quarter of the students come from Germany, three quarters from all over the world.

Prospective students do not apply directly to the school

All applications are submitted via the UWC National Committees in the applicant’s home country. For German applicants, that is UWC Germany, based in Berlin. After a successful selection process, candidates are assigned a place at one of the 18 UWC schools worldwide. In addition to the two-year programs, UWC International offers access to short courses or UWC summer camps, which are offered in many countries and on UWC campuses.

I learned a lot at RBC, both from Global Affairs and informal conversations with my peers – such diversity of experiences is very hard to find elsewhere! Writing my extended essay on a novel about migration from the perspective of people from the Global South and the Global North sparked my interest in migration policy, an interest that has not waned since.

Refugee Scholarship Program

Apply directly with the Refugee Scholarship Program

If you are a refugee in Germany, you can apply directly to UWC Robert Bosch College, as it is usually not possible for this group of people to apply in their home country. Every year, we reserve at least four scholarship places for young people with a migration background. Interested parties or a supervising organization/person can contact our Admissions Officer Hubertus Zander directly. Some preliminary information about the potential applicant and the contact details should be included in the email.

FAQ: How to apply

You do not apply directly to the college of your choice, but to your UWC National Committee. You can find all National Committees (NC) here. In total, UWC works with around 160 NCs, many of which operate on a voluntary basis.

It is not possible to apply directly to UWC Robert Bosch College; all applications go through the UWC National Committees. The only exception is a direct application for refugees living in Germany; UWC Robert Bosch College awards up to four scholarships per year in this way.

Other UWC schools participate in the Global Selection Program of UWC International, which allows direct application. You can find more information here.

It is important that all documents are complete. Each national committee has different criteria – here you can find out everything you need to know about the application process.
