Open Monument Day: The historic charterhouse and the washhouse
Today’s UWC Robert Bosch College is located on the site of the Charterhouse, which was founded in 1342 and functioned as a monastery until 1782 — and then transformed from an aristocratic residence into a municipal retirement home (1895-1897). The washhouse was built in 1907; it contained numerous washing machines, which were heated by a coal-fired steam boiler. Since the beginning of the year, the washhouse is now being renovated and will enrich the UWC campus as a meeting place for the students.
During this guided tour with historian Joachim Scheck, visitors learn more about the former charterhouse, the historic washhouse and the concept of the United World Colleges: this is where old and new, past and present meet.
Further details on the start times of the guided tours will be announced at a later date.
