Jazz picnic in the monastery garden with the Will Bartlett Trio
Fine sounds in the open air: The annual jazz picnic of the charity concert series “Culture in the Charterhouse” invites guests to the summery monastery garden on June 23 at 6:00 pm.
The evening will feature the Will Bartlett Trio with Julian Höferlin (drums), Paul Broßmer (double bass) and Will Bartlett (piano). The trio will open the concert with a set of swinging jazz standards and their own compositions – inspired by greats such as Thelonious Monk.
In the second part of the evening, the stage opens up for special guests from the regional and national jazz scene, including musicians from the Jazzhaus youth orchestra, MH Freiburg and the city’s professional jazz scene and beyond. The result is a musical meeting of the local community – diverse in terms of instruments, styles and musical influences.
Will Bartlett is an internationally renowned jazz pianist who moved from London to Freiburg in 2018. Julian Höferlin studied in Basel and Freiburg and is regularly active in both the Berlin and Freiburg jazz scenes. Paul Broßmer, born in Ettenheim, has been playing in the JJO since 2019, is studying to become a music teacher at the PH Freiburg and is already one of the most sought-after bassists in Baden.
Admission is free. As always, we welcome donations for our “Kultur in der Kartause” scholarship program, which supports applicants with refugee status in obtaining a school place at UWC Robert Bosch College.
The concert starts at 18:00. You are welcome to bring blankets or camping chairs. Refreshing drinks and snacks are available on site.
